Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sunde Yilmaz Süslüer is an accomplished Associate Professor of Medical Biology at Ege University, Faculty of Medicine, Department of Basic Medical Sciences, where she has built a distinguished academic and research career with a strong focus on molecular oncology, cancer genetics, and gene expression studies. Her scientific expertise spans the investigation of microRNAs, long non-coding RNAs, epigenetic regulation, and molecular mechanisms underlying tumorigenesis and hematological malignancies. She completed her PhD in Medical Biology at Ege University’s Institute of Health Sciences with a thesis on the determination of miRNA expression changes in diffuse and high-grade glial tumors, following her master’s research on the quantitative analysis of cytokeratin 20 mRNA expression in bladder cancer using real-time reverse transcriptase chain reaction, and her bachelor’s degree in Biology from the Faculty of Science at the same institution. As a researcher and project leader, she has contributed to numerous nationally funded scientific research projects exploring critical areas such as the epigenetic regulation of tumor suppressor genes in glial tumors, genetic and epigenetic factors in hereditary angioedema, molecular mechanisms of leukemia, and novel therapeutic approaches using CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing and nanotechnology-based miRNA delivery systems. Her current work includes directing innovative studies on the in vitro disruption of the F8 gene using CRISPR-Cas9 technology, the role of Fusobacterium nucleatum in ulcerative colitis, and non-coding RNA profiles in hepatitis B and brain tumors, integrating molecular biology techniques with translational medical applications. As a supervisor, she has guided postgraduate research focusing on genetic biomarkers, cancer pathogenesis, and molecular diagnostics, contributing significantly to the advancement of medical genetics and molecular medicine in Turkey. Through her extensive involvement in interdisciplinary collaborations, Assoc. Prof. Sünde Yılmaz Süslüer continues to advance understanding of genetic and molecular pathways in human diseases, fostering innovation in precision medicine and molecular therapeutic strategies.
